Look Like a Celebrity, on a Rising Star's Budget

This is a piece I wrote for Sony's "Andaaz TV" blog after appearing on their show as guest celebrity stylist.

Looking like a celebrity isn’t necessarily about wearing the most expensive pieces or having the hottest must have item. Its about feeling great about yourself, not being afraid to take risks, and letting your personality shine through in your wardrobe. People don’t really know what you’re about until you open your mouth, and until then, and even after that, they are judging you on first appearances, what you’re wearing, how you look, and how you carry yourself.
So, why not give them a taste of the star you are on the inside by expressing it through your wardrobe!  Let your inner rock star show with a few edgy pieces. My favorite rock star pieces are...
loosely tied black combat boots, leggings with patched strips of leather, ripped/skinny/or straight leg jeans, soft tee shirts, and faux leather jackets from H&M. And, of course every rock star needs a great pair of sunglasses to shield their eyes from the bright light after they’ve been partying the night before. So ok, you don’t party quite as hard as the average rock star? Sunglasses are still great to wear for UV protection for the eyes and the delicate skin around the eyes… and they look cool!

Are you a starlet at heart? Try classic pieces, with clean lines, and interesting design. Wear clothes that accentuate your body and make you look great. Wear the garment, don’t let it wear you! Some of my favorite classic starlet pieces are classic handbags that never go out of style like Louis Vuitton’s monogrammed bag. I love investing in a few high end pieces that never go out of style, like a great bag and a camel or black wool coat, and of course a sexy little black dress. With my classic pieces I mix in current favorites from stores like H&M, Zara, BCBG, etc. I tend not to shop for outfits but rather pieces. If you shop for pieces you truly love, that fit who you are the outfit will ultimately come together. So, let your inner celebrity shine… there’s shopping to do!
